I was asked if I could make a new pin for this item, as the old pin had broken off leaving the clasp and some of the hinge.
It is a nice piece of silver work, carrying hallmarks from Scotland and Britain. Upon inspection I noticed that some of the old
hinge for the pin was still trapped by the original hinge pin, so I decided to use the original hinge pin and build a new stick pin to fit from scratch.
The remaining piece of hinge was corroded and looked to be copper, so copper was chosen to rebuild that hinge section and a piece of watchmakers staff
steel as the pin itself. Reconstruction was straight forward hinge work. The new pin was filed to profile, fitted, and then installed. The clasp was a bit
bent, and was straightened. Very little clean up was done other than removing the corroded hinge parts and giving the new pin assembly a light buffing
to match the existing patina and shine of the piece.
