Spider Assembly


This is a small collection of pictures during the assembly of the spider.

1/16 brass rod stringers run through 1/4 brass tube cross ties. The thread is 1-72, the nuts are custom made.



Here you can see more of the spider itself and how it captures the rods.



The whole assembly rides on a flat bearing and hardened washer. I use the brass nut to adjust the height of the spider.



I bored the sweep/maingear casting to accept a bearing as a slide fit. The bearing keeps the sweeps centered and cuts down friction.
The slide fit allows me to keep all tension on the spider by adjusting the spider nut to take the weight load. The only load on the maingear bearing
is the side force from the main drive pinion.
